To improve quality of life of marginal tea plantation community in North Bengal, to provide social justice and human dignity to the marginalized and underprivileged people, and to make tea plantation workers, especially tribal groups independent and self-reliant.

    Hayden Hall was the concrete realization of Fr Burns' dreams in 1969 to have a centre in town where students and alumni of St Joseph's College, Darjeeling, could have hands-on experience of working with and for their poorer brothers and sisters, for their development and for the development of the Hills.

    Kurseong

    SOJASI (society of Jesus Agricultural Social Institute) is located in a busty called "Chimney" under the Deorali Post Office. Chimney is a remote, windy, mountain-top area at an altitude of about 4500 ft., and close to the Kurseong town.

    The seed for the creation of a new social action centre named Human Life development & Research Centre (HLDRC) was sown when the new provincial took over his office in 2012 and decided that the Darjeeling Province move from the charitable and development model of social work to that of rights-based social action model.
